Installing a new bathroom is one of the most popular ways for home-buyers to put their own stamp on a new property. Many home-owners are looking for a luxury bathing experience, whether that comes in the form of a sleek, contemporary style or an indulgent vintage look.

Neutral colour schemes that will stand the test of time remain consistently popular, but there is an enormous range of different styles and finishes to choose from.

This lovely bathroom in Enfield was recently created by A&R Design in what was originally an over-sized and under-used upstairs utility room. It combines a classic vintage style with a high-end luxurious finish, and uses a neutral palette of varying soft greys and an eclectic mix of metals.

The beautiful free-standing, roll-top bath is timelessly elegant for an indulgent bathing experience. It is complemented by the statement stainless steel, vintage-style taps and shower head – luxurious yet practical. The sides are painted in Farrow and Ball ‘Down Pipe’ a dark lead grey, to match the bespoke corner cabinet and pick out the detail of the lovely Terrazzo tiles by Fired Earth. Under-floor heating was installed, and the floor reinforced to ensure it could accommodate the heavy traditional bath when full of water.

The room uses a largely neutral colour palette of grey, silver and white, with touches of brass and copper bringing a beautiful richness and warmth. The lovely dark grey chair enhances the feeling of a space for relaxing and pampering.

A more contemporary note is introduced by the lovely round bowl-style basin, set on a slab of luxurious Carrara marble above the client-sourced vanity units, and lit by stylish brass lights, also sourced by the clients.

This lovely bathroom in Enfield was created in what was originally a large bedroom. By using sleek space-saving fittings, we were able to make sufficient space to create a small spare bedroom within the original space, with natural light provided by a frosted window high up on the wall separating the two rooms.

The new bathroom uses a classic, colour palette of blue, soft grey and white, with polished chrome fittings, giving a fresh, clean feel.

The white bathroom suite has simple, sleek lines, complemented by the up-to-date style of the polished chrome taps, heated towel rail and light fittings, giving the whole room a sleek and contemporary style. The bespoke bath surround is made from a white, Carrara Composite material. The towel rail is the popular and efficient ‘summer-kit’ version, meaning that it is run from the central heating during winter, but when the heating is turned off during the summer, the towel rail is independently heated. Under-floor heating provides additional warmth when needed, and avoids the need for bulky radiators.

The predominant colours are white and a soft grey and interest and colour are added by decorative touches like the pretty patterned towels, and the lovely patterned blue hexagonal cement floor tiles (which need specialist fitting and sealing). Simple white metro tiles complement the crisp, contemporary style of the bath.

Good storage is very important in a bathroom, and it is usually best to incorporate a range of different types of storage for different purposes, as illustrated by this bathroom. The roomy vanity unit gives plenty of space for hiding away the less attractive bathroom clutter, such as cleaning products. A narrow medicine cabinet above doubles up as a bathroom mirror, making the most of the available space. Above the bath, a bespoke unit is set into the alcove which includes both closed sections for clutter, with push-catches to give a stream-lined effect, and open shelves for displaying the attractively patterned towels and pretty baskets for bathing products. Recessed, back-lit nooks in the shower walls are both functional and attractive.
